Rat bite vaccine: By now you must have heard that there is a risk of rabies due to the bite of a dog, cat or monkey. Therefore, whenever one of these animals bites, one should immediately wash the wound with soap and water and go for rabies vaccination. Also, the dog or cat should be monitored for at least 10 days to ensure that it does not go mad or die from rabies. But do you know that the rats and moles that often run around in the house can also bite you or your children. Not only dogs and cats, bites from these small animals are also dangerous. Can they also spread rabies or any other dangerous disease, which can even lead to the death of the victim? Let us know.
The guidelines for prevention and control of rabies of the National Center for Disease Control under the Ministry of Health of the Government of India say that the bite of animals like dog, cat, monkey etc. can cause rabies disease, hence rabies vaccine has to be administered, but at home There are also some small animals which can pose a danger if they bite.
What do the guidelines say
NCDC guidelines say that generally rabies is not transmitted by the bite of rats roaming in the house. Therefore, it is believed that if a rat bites, there is no need for rabies vaccine. But the wound bitten by a rat needs to be washed immediately with running water and soap. It should also be seen how big the wound is.
Apart from washing the wound, one should also consult a physician. If the doctor after seeing the wound says that anti-tetanus injection is to be taken, then it should be given immediately.
However, many times the patient’s history of being bitten by an animal does not seem correct because he is either confused or does not have proper knowledge about the animal, in such a situation it is possible that what he is considering is a rat. Be it a mole, a mongoose or a mole. Therefore, for prevention, it is important that the patient should go for rabies vaccination.
Rabies vaccine necessary in case of wild animal bite
Apart from this, if you are in the forest and you are bitten by a mongoose, rabbit, rat, mole rat or any rodent, then it is important to get post exposure prophylaxis i.e. rabies vaccination.
Rabies is very dangerous
According to NCDC, prevention of rabies is possible but once rabies disease occurs, it cannot be cured. This is 100 percent fatal. After this, the victim loses his life. Another thing is that it is not known whether the animal that has bitten is rabid or not, hence rabies vaccination becomes necessary.
