All about bone cancer: There are many diseases related to bones, the most dangerous of which is bone cancer. According to doctors, when the cells of bones start growing uncontrollably, then it becomes a fatal disease. Bone cancer is rare, so most people are unaware of it. However, this cancer can be very dangerous and fatal. To avoid this, people should take precautions and get treatment from time to time. What is bone cancer and what are its causes, let’s try to know the answers to these questions from experts.
Dr Himanshu Tyagi, Additional Director, Orthopedics and Spine Department, Fortis Hospital, Greater Noida, told AnyTV That bone cancer is a type of cancer that begins in the cells of the bones. It is rarer than other cancers. The 4 common bone cancers are osteosarcoma, Ewing sarcoma, chondrosarcoma and chordoma. In India, osteosarcoma and Ewing sarcoma affect children and young adults more. No exact cause of these cancers has been found, but many risk factors increase the risk of this disease.
According to Dr Himanshu, factors such as radiation exposure, chronic infection, family history, tobacco and alcohol consumption, poor lifestyle, unhealthy eating habits can cause bone cancer. Many risk factors do not directly cause bone cancer, but indirectly increase the risk of this disease. In India, environmental and lifestyle factors may not directly cause bone cancer, but they can affect the risk, diagnosis and treatment. It is very important to detect it at the right time and get it treated, otherwise it can lead to death.
Bone cancer can also reach the lungs
Dr. Sudhir Seth, Director, Orthopaedic Department, MASSH Super Speciality Hospital, New Delhi, told AnyTV Children are at a higher risk of bone cancer. Children’s bones grow and during this time, the cells of some children start growing without any control. This destroys the bones. If it is not detected on time, bone cancer can metastasize through the blood and reach the lungs and other organs. There are many types of bone cancer and some of them are very dangerous. If people are affected by these cancers, they can die within a year.
Dr. Sudhir Seth said that to detect bone cancer, X-ray of bones, MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), CT (computed tomography) scan, bone scan and biopsy are done. Talking about the treatment of this cancer, surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy are used to remove the tumor. Treatment is done according to the condition of the patient. If the treatment of this disease starts at the right time, then 80% of the patients can live 10 years or more. However, if the cancer is primary, then the risk of death is higher.
Can bone cancer be prevented?
According to health experts, to prevent bone cancer, people should avoid radiation exposure, take a good diet, and improve their lifestyle. People who have a family history of this cancer should get tested from time to time, so that this disease can be detected in time.
