Caste census, Maratha reservation… Ajit Pawar agrees with his uncle

New Delhi. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who broke away from Sharad Pawar’s party and became a part of the Eknath Shinde government in Maharashtra, is making statements one after the other, which has heated up the state’s politics. Earlier, he had called his decision to field his wife Sunetra against cousin Supriya Suleh in the Lok Sabha elections wrong. Now, he is advocating an all-party meeting, echoing uncle Sharad Pawar’s views on the issue of Maratha reservation.

Ajit Pawar told PTI during his ‘Jan Samman Yatra’ that opposition parties cannot be ignored as they also represent the people. “Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange wants quota under Other Backward Classes (OBC). Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had called an all-party meeting to discuss the quota issue but the opposition stayed away. I don’t know if the boycott was deliberate.”

Support for ‘Chief Minister Ladli Behan Yojana’…
Praising the ‘Mukhyamantri Ladli Behan Yojana’, Pawar said that it will be launched at a program in Balewadi on August 17 and its beneficiaries will get money for July and August. Under this scheme, women will get assistance of Rs 1,500 per month provided their annual family income is less than Rs 2.5 lakh. Chief Minister Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will also attend the program related to the launch of this scheme.

There will be no burden on the government treasury…
Criticising the opposition for calling it an election gimmick that will put a burden on the state exchequer, Ajit Pawar said that he has presented 10 budgets and has knowledge about finance. On the issue of resource mobilisation, Ajit Pawar said that Maharashtra’s share in the country’s GST collection is 16 per cent, of which 50 per cent is returned to the state.
