Kolkata. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over the investigation of the alleged rape and murder of a female doctor at a medical college in Kolkata. The CBI team will visit the crime scene on Wednesday along with doctors and forensic experts.

Earlier, the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday ordered the transfer of the investigation into the alleged rape and murder of a female doctor to the CBI. The court had directed the Kolkata Police to hand over the case diary to the central investigating agency by the evening of August 13 and all other documents to it by 10 am on Wednesday.

The body of a postgraduate trainee doctor was found in the seminar hall of the government RG Kar Hospital on the morning of August 9, allegedly raped and murdered. A man named Sanjoy Roy was arrested on August 10 in connection with the case.

The Calcutta High Court also appealed to the agitating doctors in the state to end the strike and said that they (doctors) have a ‘sacred obligation’.
