CBI will investigate doctor rape and murder case: Calcutta High Court handed over the investigation of the rape and murder case of a female doctor to the CBI

New Delhi. The Calcutta High Court has handed over the investigation of the rape and murder of a female trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College to the CBI. The court has ordered the Bengal Police to hand over all the documents related to the case to the CBI by tomorrow morning. A bench of Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam and Justice Hiranmay Bhattacharya told the principal of RG Kar Medical College to go on leave on his own, otherwise the court will order him to be sent on long leave. The court has also called upon the doctors to end their agitation.

The court says that the agitation will affect the poor patients coming to government hospitals, so the doctors should return to work. The bench said that we really appreciate the sentiments expressed in this matter by the doctors and medical students and especially those of RG Kar Medical College. But it is the duty of the doctors to treat their patients, so we will appeal that they discuss with the senior officials of the state government and consider withdrawing their agitation. Earlier this morning, during the hearing, the High Court had questioned the Mamata Banerjee government in the dock in this matter, asking why the government is trying to save the principal of the medical college? Has the statement of the principal of RG Kar Medical College been taken in this matter? How will you assure that the investigation will be transparent?

Let us tell you that the Principal of the Medical College, Dr. Sandeep Ghosh had resigned from his post yesterday. But soon after his resignation, he has been reappointed in Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital. On the other hand, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of the rape and murder of the female doctor and has issued a notice to the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police of West Bengal and has sought a detailed report in the case within two weeks.
