Jaipur. A meeting was held at Udyog Bhavan on Friday under the chairmanship of Alok Gupta, Principal Government Secretary, Department of Industry and Commerce to encourage indigenization in the manufacturing of products related to defense sector by the Central Government. The meeting was attended by Sushil Satpute, Deputy Director General, Defense Production Department, Industry Commissioner Rohit Gupta, Managing Director, Rico, Shivangi Swarnakar, Commissioner of Investment Promotion Bureau, Suresh Ola along with other senior officials and representatives of about 20 industrial units manufactured in the defense sector in Rajasthan.
Sushil Satpute informed that at present, products worth about Rs 1.50 lakh crore are being prepared by public and private sector units working in the defense sector of the country, out of which about 23 thousand 600 crore rupees are being exported to the friendly countries. The share of the private sector in this production is about 22.5 percent. In the last 10 years, the license for defense production in the private sector has increased from 246 to 742. The central government is ready to fulfill fully cooperation towards indigenization from units of MSME sector. Defense technology developed by DRDO can also be transferred to private sector companies.
In the meeting, Rico officials explained the availability of land for investment in defense sector in Rajasthan and the benefits available under Rajasthan Investment Promotion Scheme – 2024 (Reps). He said that units set up for manufacturing in defense sector in the state are in profitable condition due to the strategic location of the state. In the meeting, the state government’s proposed ‘Defense Aerospace Policy’ was discussed with Stackholders.
Entrepreneurs discussed the difficulties faced by the units in taking various types of licenses / sanctions and urged the Ministry of Defense Production to organize an expo related to the equipment from their behalf in Rajasthan. Apart from this, there was a sufficient amount of new enterprises and investment in adequate arrangements related to testing of defense products. Association officials prayed to entrepreneurs to continue to communicate continuously.
