Chennai. Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh said that the central government is encouraging the private sector and startups to realize India’s ambitious manned space mission. To a question raised in the Lok Sabha on the status of India’s manned space mission (Gaganyaan), Singh said on Wednesday, “The government is engaged in various Gaganyaan activities such as hardware procurement, parts supply, health monitoring, devices, virtual reality simulators, etc. sector and encouraging startups.”
On the current status of the Gaganyaan project, he said that an astronaut training facility has been started in Bengaluru. There training activities are going well.
The design of all systems and sub systems for Gaganyaan has been completed. Realizing this is in various stages of progress.
Long-term qualification testing of Human Rated Cryogenic Engine and Phase I testing of Human Rated Evolution Engine have been completed. Singh said that the first phase of performance testing for the Gaganyaan Service Module Propulsion System has also been completed.
According to him, the proof of concept demonstration for the ground network with the service providers has been completed. The construction of an integration facility for the preparation of the orbital module is nearing completion.
He said, “Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Contract and Implementation Arrangement (IA) related activities with both national and international agencies are progressing well. Design of various human centric products has been completed and various prototypes received. are being done.”
In addition, receipt of Gaganyaan deliverables against contracts with Glavkosmos, Russia and CNES, France has started.
The role and responsibility of the crew recovery operation and rehearsal has been finalised. Detailed operational requirements for nominal mission scenarios are also worked out.
“Activities related to the development of microgravity experiments have started. The conceptual design for the experiments is under review,” Singh said.
Earlier, the government had said that major missions such as test vehicle flights to verify the performance of the Crew Escape System are currently targeted for the second half of 2022.
Subsequently, the first unmanned mission of Gaganyaan (GI) is targeted for early 2023. This will be followed by the second unmanned mission and the first manned mission.
