Sri Lanka’s women’s cricket team’s young batsman Vishmi Gunaratne has created history by scoring a brilliant century in the ODI match against Ireland. 18-year-old Vishmi completed the first century of her career playing just 16 ODIs and became the second Sri Lankan women cricketer to do so. She scored 101 runs in 98 balls, which included three sixes and nine fours. Vishmi Gunaratne completed her century in the 31st over of Sri Lanka’s innings. She touched the 100-run mark by hitting a four off Ireland bowler Arlene Kelly. However, she was caught out on the very next ball. Despite this, her brilliant performance was a proud moment for Sri Lankan women’s cricket.

Chamari Atapattu got out without opening the account in this historic match for Sri Lanka.

After the team’s score was 35/2, Vishmi shared a crucial 122-run partnership with Hasini Perera and rescued the team from a difficult situation. The Sri Lankan team scored 260 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 50 overs. Recently, there was a two-match T20 series between Sri Lanka and Ireland, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
