New Delhi: Telugu Desh Party (TDP) chief Chandrababu Naidu will take oath as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh for the fourth time today. Naidu became an MLA for the first time at the age of just 28. He became a minister at the age of 30 and became the Chief Minister at the age of 45. Naidu was born on 20 April 1950 in Naravirapalle in Tirupati district of Andhra Pradesh.
Won the first election in 1978
Talking about Chandrababu Naidu’s political career, he started his political innings with Congress. He won his first election in 1978 and became an MLA. Between 1980 and 1982, he got the opportunity to work as a minister in the Andhra Pradesh cabinet. He was emerging as a strong Congress leader in Andhra Pradesh.
He left Congress and joined TDP
Chandrababu Naidu married Nara Bhuvaneshwari, daughter of Telugu film industry’s veteran actor NT Rama Rao, in 1981. Meanwhile, NT Rama Rao laid the foundation of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in 1982. NT Rama Rao said that he wanted to free the politics of Andhra Pradesh from corruption. With the establishment of TDP, Chandrababu Naidu also changed sides and joined the party of his father-in-law NT Rama Rao.
Coup in 1995
In 1989 and 1994, he was elected MLA on TDP ticket. In 1994, he was also given the important responsibility of the Finance Ministry. By now Chandrababu Naidu had fully established himself in politics. In 1995, he overthrew his father-in-law and himself became the CM of Andhra Pradesh. Political experts believe that he took this step due to the interference of NTR’s second wife Lakshmi Parvati in the party and government.

After becoming the president of TDP in August 1995, he was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on 1 September 1995. He was the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh from 1995 to 2004 and was known as the CM who brought economic reforms in the state. He also played an important role in national politics between 1996 and 2004. He was also the convener of the United Front.
He was the opposition leader for 10 years
Chandrababu Naidu had supported the NDA government formed at the Centre in 1999 from outside. Chandrababu Naidu was also the leader of the opposition for 10 years. In the 2019 assembly elections, the TDP was able to win only 23 out of 175 seats. But in the 2024 assembly elections, he has returned to the assembly with a huge majority by winning 161 seats.
