Mission Chandrayaan will not end in 14 days!
M. Srikanth, who was a part of Chandrayaan-3 mission, has expressed hope that when the sun shines again on the moon after 14 days of night, the lander and rover can start working again. Speaking to associate newspaper Times of India, Srikant said, our priority is to collect as much scientific data as possible for one lunar day (14 Earth days), when there is sunlight. Now the rover and lander will work on the moon for seven more days and then they will stop working after sunset. We are confident that when the night ends and the sun shines, both of them will become active again. If this happens then it will be good for us that more data can be collected. Even if this does not happen, our mission will be accomplished.
The sun came out on the moon on August 23 and there will be sunlight there for 14 days. Till then Pragyan and Vikram will also keep working, but as soon as the sun sets and night begins, both of them will become inactive. Because they have solar panels installed on them and they generate energy only from sunlight. When the sun sets, the temperature on the moon drops to -203 degrees Celsius. Vikram and Pragyan cannot work in this temperature. In such a situation, when there will be 14 days of night on the moon, both of these will not be able to work.
