The All India Chess Federation (AICF) on Saturday said it will bid for hosting the 44th leg of the Chess Olympiad to be held later this year. It was removed from Russia after the invasion of Ukraine.
AICF Secretary Bharat Singh Chauhan said that we are bidding for Chess Olympiad this year. The budget of the tournament will be 10 million dollars (about 750 million). Chess Olympiad is a biennial tournament. In this, teams of about 190 countries face each other for two weeks.
The 2022 phase was to be held in Moscow from 26 July to 8 August, but the International Chess Federation (FIDE) decided to remove the Chess Olympiad and all other official competitions from Russia. FIDE said it is working on finding an alternate date and venue for the tournament.
