In conversation with AnyTV, farmer leaders say that their movement is not only about the fact that the previous governments acquired their lands and did not keep the promises made to them. Now farmer leader Rakesh Tikait has also entered in the farmers’ movement going on for the last 52 days in Nava Raipur, Chhattisgarh. After the election noise of Uttar Pradesh stops, Tikait will travel to Chhattisgarh to support the farmers. However, he has also spoken to the Chhattisgarh government over the phone regarding the issue of farmers. Meanwhile, the farmer leaders said that if the Baghel government does not accept our demands, then we will intensify the movement. From next time, wherever Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel will go in every election of other states, we will go there and tell the reality of the Congress government.
In fact, just in front of Mantralaya Bhawan located in Naya Raipur, on the lines of Delhi, about 7000 farmers of 27 villages are adamant about their demand. These farmers are also getting strong support from other farmer organizations across the country. Farmers’ organizations are demanding that all the affected farmers of the village, who are helping in the development of Nava Raipur, Chhattisgarh, should be resettled, whether they are landowners or landless. Farmers should get employment and arrangements should be made for their rehabilitation. At the same time, they got the lease of the entire settlement from the government. The farmers allege that the promises made by the state government at the time of acquisition of villages have not been fulfilled. The farmers are adamant on their insistence and are demanding written assurance from the government.
Baghel government is reneging on its promise
In conversation with AnyTV, farmer leaders say that their movement is not only about the fact that the previous governments acquired their lands and did not keep the promises made to them. One of the reasons for the great anger of the farmers’ organizations is that even before the 2018 assembly elections, they had organized a big agitation. At that time Congress supported our movement. It was then that the farmers’ organizations were promised that after the formation of the government in the state, all their demands would be fulfilled.
He said, after the formation of Chhattisgarh, the land of 27 villages was taken by the previous government to develop the Nava Raipur area, the farmers wanted that they should be given four times the compensation. At the same time, apart from giving 1200 square feet of land to every family, arrangements should also be made to provide employment to one unemployed person from each family. But it has been almost three years since the Congress government came to power in the state but they have not yet fulfilled our demands.
Congress turned out like BJP
Farmers also say that Bhupesh Baghel had supported this movement of farmers when the farmers’ organizations were agitating in Delhi regarding the three agricultural laws. Whereas in the Lakhimpur incident, the state government had also announced a compensation of 50 lakhs to the family of the victim farmer. So why is this government not fulfilling our demands till now.
Farmer leader Chandrakar said that this Congress government also turned out to be like the BJP for him. When these people were in opposition, they were with our movement on these issues. Now that they are in the government, even after such a big movement, the louse is not crawling on their ears. With what mouth are the people of this government going to other states and saying that we have fulfilled every promise. From next time, wherever Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel will go in every election of other states, we will go there and tell the reality of the Congress government.

Government agrees on some demands, farmers adamant on all demands
After 51 days of agitation and three rounds of discussion, the state government has agreed to accept some of the demands. Two days ago, Agriculture Minister Ravindra Choubey had said that the government was ready to accept six out of eight demands. Farmer organizations called his statement a hoax. He said that the things that the minister is referring to include only one or two points in his demand letter. The government is not saying anything on the main demands. The agitation will continue till their demands are met.
