New Delhi. Chief Secretary Shri Sanjeev Kaushal has directed all the Deputy Commissioners to ensure the cleaning of drains and sewerage lines and other flood control works in their jurisdiction before June 30 and submit a report in this regard. Shri Kaushal gave these instructions while reviewing the status of new and ongoing flood protection schemes through video conferencing of all the Divisional Commissioners and District Deputy Commissioners. The Chief Secretary said that prior arrangements should be made to avoid any untoward situation. He directed the concerned officers to monitor the progress of all flood related works and projects and ensure that all these are completed before time. He also directed the officials to identify the channels of overflowing water in the state and make necessary arrangements to drain the excess water through pumps. Apart from this, the work of cleaning and siltation of drains should also be done immediately.
Chief Secretary gave instructions
To ensure the cleaning of drains at the earliest, the Chief Secretary directed that the District Deputy Commissioners should appoint sub-divisional officers and other officers of the Irrigation Department to expedite the flood control works and these officers would personally carry out the drains and flood control works. Inspect the cleanliness of the sites. He directed the officers to submit the report to the Additional Chief Secretary, Irrigation and Water Resources Department after verification of the work done. For the drainage of water in the submerged areas across the state during the heavy rains in the coming monsoon season, Mr. Kaushal directed the concerned officers. Instructions were given to make adequate arrangement of pumpsats. He also reviewed the status of short, medium and long term flood protection schemes.
The situation of the Chief Secretary
The Chief Secretary also reviewed the status of available machinery for flood control with the Irrigation and Water Resources Department. He directed the Electricity Department that wherever electricity connections are required by the Irrigation Department during the monsoon season, they should be made available. In the meeting, Additional Chief Secretary, Irrigation and Water Resources Department, Shri Devendra Singh, Additional Chief Secretary, Finance Department, Shri T. .VSN Prasad, CEO HWRA Dr. Satbir Singh Kadian and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
