Pakistan’s PM Shahbaz Sharif and China’s President Xi Jinping.
Beijing: The path has been cleared for Narendra Modi to become the Prime Minister of India for a record third time. BJP and NDA have chosen him as the leader of their parliamentary party. Along with this, he has also been chosen as the leader of the Lok Sabha. Now his swearing-in ceremony is going to be held on 9 June. But this news has created a stir in Pakistan and China. With Modi becoming the PM for a record third time, China and Pakistan are afraid of India becoming stronger. Therefore Chinese President Xi Jinping and Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Friday discussed deepening strategic cooperation between the two countries as they are keeping a close eye on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s election for a record third time.
Top leaders of the neighbouring countries of South Asia are likely to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Narendra Modi. Pakistan and China will be the countries whose leaders will not attend the swearing-in ceremony. All other leaders of SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) countries will attend the ceremony. Top leaders of Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bhutan, Seychelles and Mauritius are likely to attend the ceremony. Incidentally, former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the elder brother of Shahbaz Sharif, who is considered a supporter of improving India-Pakistan relations, had attended the swearing-in ceremony when Modi became Prime Minister for the first time in 2014.
China and Pakistan are busy strengthening their relations
Modi’s return for the third time has created a stir in Pakistan and China. Therefore, both the countries have already started working to strengthen their mutual relationship. During his meeting with Sharif, Xi discussed the strong relations between China-Pakistan and the broad prospects for the development of the evergreen strategic partnership between the two countries. This is Sharif’s first visit to China after becoming Prime Minister for the second time. State news agency Xinhua said, “China is ready to work with Pakistan to firmly support each other, strengthen cooperation, deepen strategic coordination, and make greater contributions to regional peace and stability.”
23 agreements signed between China and Pakistan
Earlier, Sharif met Chinese Premier Li Keqiang following which the two countries signed 23 agreements, according to state-run Associated Press of Pakistan (APP). However, the agreements did not cover the second phase of the CPEC and the USD 8 billion high-speed railway project linking Karachi with Peshawar. “We discussed various facets of the multifaceted Pakistan-China relations and discussed our long-standing and steadfast friendship, all-weather strategic cooperation, economic and trade ties and CPEC,” Sharif said in a post on X.
