China’s Chang’e 6 spacecraft has recently returned to Earth with rocks and soil from the far side of the Moon. This was the first mission to reach the far side of the Moon and bring soil and rock samples from there. Let us tell you that earlier in August 2023, India’s Chandrayaan landed on the south pole region of the Moon. India became the first country to do so. Now China has said that it welcomes scientists from all over the world to study the moon samples collected by Chang E-6.
Limitations of research with America- China
China’s space officials have said they welcome scientists from around the world to study lunar samples but there are some limitations in the research process, especially with the US. Chinese officials say any cooperation with the US will depend on the US lifting a law that bans direct bilateral cooperation with NASA.
What is the controversy?
In fact, the Wolf Amendment was brought into effect by the US in the year 2011. Let us tell you that this amendment approves only those bilateral cooperations between America and China in which the FBI can certify that there is no threat to national security by sharing information with the Chinese side during the work.
What did China say?
China has said that the root of the obstacle in cooperation between the US and China in the space sector remains in the Wolf Amendment. If the US really wants to start regular space cooperation, then it should take appropriate steps to remove this obstacle. China has said that it welcomes scientists from all countries in research and will share information with them. (Input: Bhasha)
