Beijing: China is furious over a major decision taken during the Quad Summit in Japan. China has made a big allegation against Japan and said that it is attacking Beijing along with America, India and Australia. China says that Japan has made “defamatory attacks” against it during high-level talks with the Quad countries. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Wednesday that Director General of the Department of Asian Affairs Liu Jinsong had expressed serious concern about the recent developments during a meeting with Deputy Chief of Mission Akira Yokochi at the Japanese Embassy a day earlier.
According to the statement, “Liu said that Japan’s defamatory attacks on China are contrary to its stance of promoting strategic and mutual relations between the two countries.” During a meeting in Tokyo, the capital of Japan on Sunday, the Japanese foreign and defense ministers agreed to increase military cooperation with the US. This meeting was held between the foreign and defense ministers of the two countries. The joint statement said that China wants to reshape the global order for its own benefit through its foreign policy and such behavior has created a “major strategic challenge” in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.
This announcement was made without naming China
After the talks between the US and Japan, the foreign ministers of the countries included in the ‘Quad’ group, the US, Japan, India and Australia, met on Monday. The joint statement issued after this did not mention China by name, but expressed opposition to “increasing military interference in disputed issues and threatening maneuvers in the South China Sea”. China has accused the US of strengthening relations with other countries to stop its (China’s) growing influence. The Foreign Ministry statement said that China urges Japan to stop making irresponsible statements about its (China’s) internal affairs. At the same time, a statement issued by the Japanese Embassy said that Yokochi clarified Japan’s stand in the meeting and put forth his views on various topics related to China. (AP)
