Satellite station to be built in Sri Lanka!
According to a report in The Hindu newspaper, some satellite images of the Cocoa Islands have come recently. It is clearly visible in these that a Chinese military facility at this place is very close to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. If sources are to be believed, preparations are being made to build a remote satellite receiving ground station system between the Aerospace Information Research Institute under the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Ruhuna University in southern Sri Lanka. If sources related to Indian defense organizations are to be believed, the place where it has been proposed to build this station is very important. In such a situation, China can use it to spy on Indian assets and intercept sensitive information.
China’s move to Cocoa Island
If sources are to be believed, the intelligence received about the military station being built by China in the Cocoa Islands, about 60 kilometers away from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, has been mentioned. If defense sources are to be believed, then whatever China is doing in such a situation, there are bound to be concerns. Recently a radome was seen on the island in satellite images. Radom means a dome-shaped structure to protect the radar. According to sources, the island is being connected to the mainland by a new bridge. Its length is 175 meters and width is eight meters. According to defense sources, the Chinese army can always use this facility if needed.
Coco island near Andaman
Recently London-based think tank Chatham House released a report on satellite images of Maxar Technologies. This report was based on satellite images of January 2023. In these pictures, large-scale construction activities were seen on the strategically important Coco Island. In these, two new hangars, a new path and a house-like block were visible. All of them were visible close to the newly built 2,300-metre runway and radar station. It was said in the report that all these constructions seen at the end of March were on the southern part of Great Coco. This is the part which is just opposite to the bridge connecting Andaman.
Will keep an eye on India’s missile!
China has been operating a Signals Intelligence Center since the 1990s. According to experts, China’s satellite tracking facilities are of dual use. The Chinese civilian space program is run in conjunction with the Chinese military. In such a situation, China’s expanding ground stations in this region can definitely be used to disrupt sensitive information related to India. If sources are to be believed, the Chinese ground station can keep an eye on India’s satellite launching facility in Sriharikota and the Integrated Missile Test Range in Odisha. It can track the launch by receiving sensitive data with the help of a remote station being built in Sri Lanka.
