China Open Super 100: PV Sindhu, who reached Tomoka Miyazaki, reached the pre-quarterfinal

The China Open Super 1000 badminton tournament in Changzhou was a great day for India. The pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirg Shetty entered the next round by defeating Japan’s Hiroki Omkara and Kenya Mitsuhashi 21–13, 21-9 in straight games. The match lasted for only 31 minutes.

Sindhu’s return, place in pre-quarter finals

PV Sindhu, who has won a medal twice in the Olympics, defeated Japan’s Tomoka Miazaki 21-15, 8-21, 21-17 in a tough match. Sindhu lost the second game after winning the first game, but in the decisive game she made a strong comeback and made it to the Round of 16. This victory is important for Sindhu as she has been out in the initial stages in many tournaments this year.

Performance of other Indian players

HS Prannoy defeated Koki Watanbe of Japan 8-21, 21-16, 23-21 in a thrilling match. Pranay made a spectacular comeback after trailing 1-7 and 15–20 in the decisive game.

Lakshya Sen Chinese player Lee Shifg lost 21–14, 22-24, 11-21 and was eliminated in the first round.

Anupama Upadhyay lost to Chinese player Lynn Hsiang-Tay to 23-21, 11-21, 10-21.

Raprna and Swetaparna Panda lost 12-21, 13-21 to the experienced pair of Hong Kong’s Women’s Doubles duo Hong Kong.

In the mixed doubles, the couples of Rohan Kapoor-Rutwika Gaddhed and Dashith Surya-Amrita Pramuthesh were out in the first round.

The victory of Satvik-Chirag and the strong comeback of Sindhu has given India a strong start in the tournament. Now everyone’s eyes will be on Prannoy vs Tsian Chain’s pre-quarterfinal match and Sindhu’s next performance.
