New Delhi. Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh on Wednesday claimed that a probe has been initiated into Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal sending messages to party MLAs through his lawyers from Tihar Jail and threatened to stop their meetings. .
An AAP statement quoting Singh said, “The Narendra Modi-led government is punishing Kejriwal for his public welfare schemes of providing free education, health, electricity and water to Delhiites. They want to turn Tihar into Hitler’s gas chamber, where the Chief Minister cannot even send a message for public service.”
Singh said in the press conference that Kejriwal had sent a message to AAP MLAs asking them to visit their constituencies and solve the problems of the people. Without naming anyone, Singh claimed that after Kejriwal sent the message, a “threat” was given that the chief minister’s meetings with lawyers and family members would be stopped.
BJP’s Delhi unit president Virendra Sachdeva hit back at Singh for ‘politicising’ the issue and said that after the Delhi High Court dismissed the petition challenging Kejriwal’s arrest and remand in the excise case, AAP The entire Aam Aadmi Party including MP Sanjay Singh is disappointed.
Singh hit out at the Narendra Modi-led government and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), saying they want to keep Kejriwal in Tihar jail under ‘Hitlershahi’ to break him emotionally. He said, “Kejriwal will neither break nor bow down to any tyranny.” Singh said that two crore people of Delhi will answer this in the Lok Sabha elections.
However, Sachdeva said, “No one wants to break Kejriwal and he is only being asked to answer questions related to the excise case and other corruption issues. It is shameful that leaders like Sanjay Singh are giving political color to the entire matter.” AAP Rajya Sabha member Singh alleged that he and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann wanted to meet Kejriwal in jail, but the jail authorities canceled the meeting even though a token number was issued for the meeting.
Kejriwal has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case related to the alleged excise policy scam. He is in judicial custody till April 15 and is currently lodged in Tihar Jail. Singh said that during the meetings with lawyers in the jail, Kejriwal is accompanied by eight-nine policemen, which is against the rules because prisoners are allowed to talk to their lawyers in private.
