New Delhi. Delhi High Court on Friday ordered MCD and DDA to immediately close coaching centers running in violation of fire safety norms. A bench headed by Justice Yashwant Verma had earlier ordered a team of lawyers to investigate the coaching centers in Mukherjee Nagar. The High Court also asked the authorities to relocate the electrical equipment installed outside the coaching premises, which could be potentially dangerous to the public. This order came on several petitions filed on the operation of coaching centers in the area.
In which the High Court itself had registered the case after taking cognizance of the incident of fire in a coaching center in June 2023. Amicus curiae Gautam Narayan told the High Court that investigation was conducted on two occasions in April. This revealed that some of the coaching centers which the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) claimed to have closed were still functioning under a new management or a new name. Narayan said these premises were not following fire safety requirements. In one case, an electrical board was found installed at the door of a coaching class itself. Which used to block the way in case of fire.
The court pulled up the MCD for failing to take notice of such coaching centers despite its earlier direction to shut down institutions violating fire safety norms. The High Court directed them to take immediate action against him. The High Court had earlier also said that fire safety is very important.
