New Delhi. The people of the country’s capital and its surrounding areas were facing severe heat for the last several days. There was sporadic rain in various areas of Delhi NCR, but it was not raining the way the clouds should rain in the monsoon. Due to this, the humid heat had made life difficult for the people. People were getting drenched in sweat as soon as they moved away from the AC, fan or cooler. Now on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, there was torrential rain late in the evening. It rained so much that normal life was derailed in Delhi as well as the surrounding areas. More than 112 mm of rain was recorded in Delhi in an hour. In view of the situation, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had to issue a red alert. According to the standards of IMD, if 100 mm or more rain is recorded in 1 hour in any part of the country, then it is placed in the category of cloud burst. However, no formal announcement has been made by IMD regarding this yet.

On Wednesday evening, Delhi and its surrounding areas received heavy to very heavy rainfall. More than 100 mm of rain was recorded in the country’s capital in an hour. Due to this, various areas of the metropolis were waterlogged. The roads were completely submerged. After this, the Meteorological Department had to issue a red alert. At the same time, the National Flash Flood Guidance Bulletin has included Delhi in the list of ‘Areas of Concern’. This information has been given by the Meteorological Department Office.
