Jhansi. There have been many cases of suicide attempts by consuming sulphas tablets in Bundelkhand. Efforts to prevent this and find a cure were going on for a long time. The team of doctors of Rani Laxmibai Medical College has achieved great success in this direction. A research has revealed that the effect of sulphas can be reduced with coconut oil. When gastric lavage (cleaning of the stomach through a tube) was done, 45 percent of the patients’ lives were saved. Now preparations are being made for its trial in a big institution.
This research has been done by the team of senior doctors of the medical college, Dr. Nutan Agarwal, Dr. Zaki Siddiqui and Dr. Kshitij Nath. Dr. Zaki told that from January 2022 to July 2023, research was done on the patients who came to the medical college after consuming sulphas. When 1.5 liters of coconut oil gastric lavage was done for 18 patients who were in a very critical condition, the effect of sulfur was reduced. Most of the people’s lives were also saved.

Dr. Zaki said that the medical college team was looking for a substance whose pH is more than 7. Coconut oil was a perfect fit. It reduces the effect of phosphine gas produced by sulphas in the body. This can save the lives of patients. This discovery is a boon for the patients of Bundelkhand.
