New Delhi. Amidst the nationwide strike by doctors protesting the rape and murder of a doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College, the Union Health Ministry today said that the government will form a committee to ensure the safety of doctors. This committee will suggest measures for the safety of doctors during duty. Along with this, the government has appealed to the doctors to end the strike and return to work.

Representatives of Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA), Indian Medical Association (IMA) and Resident Doctors Association of Government Medical Colleges and Hospitals of Delhi met the officials of Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare today and apprised them of all their demands including security. During this, the government has assured to meet the demands of all the doctors. On the government’s appeal to end the strike, the doctors’ organization said that they will take a decision only after talking to the representatives. At present, the doctors’ strike is still going on but it is expected that after the government’s assurance, the doctors can return to work soon.

The Health Ministry has called upon the doctors to return to duty citing the increasing cases of dengue and malaria. Let us tell you that the Calcutta High Court has handed over the investigation of this case to the CBI. The High Court had questioned the Mamata Banerjee government in the dock in this matter, asking why the government is trying to save the principal of the medical college? Along with this, the High Court had also called upon the doctors to end the agitation. The court had said that the agitation will affect the poor patients coming to government hospitals, so the doctors should return to work.
