New Delhi. The Congress Party, which is already facing many problems including freezing of bank accounts, has now faced another big problem. Under the latest case, the Income Tax Department has given another big blow to the Congress. Income Tax Department has sent recovery notice of Rs 1700 crore to Congress. This notice has been sent for the year 2017-18 to 2020-21. In this notice sent by the Income Tax Department, along with the tax, penalty and interest have also been added. While Congress has accused BJP in this regard, the Central Government has also reacted to it.
Earlier on Thursday, the Delhi High Court had rejected the petition filed by the Congress Party against the action of the Income Tax Department. Congress had filed the petition against the tax re-assessment proceedings conducted by the Income Tax Department for 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17. The Income Tax Department had ordered recovery of Rs 210 crore. The Income Tax Department had found irregularities in Congress’s tax returns in February. After which the department had imposed a penalty of Rs 210 crore. The Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) had asked the party to pay the dues and had frozen the Congress accounts. At the same time, Congress says that the Tax Tribunal’s order to freeze its funds is an attack on democracy, because this order has been given just before the Lok Sabha elections.

In this regard, Congress leader Ajay Maken said that we knocked on the doors of both the Election Commission and the court. Unnecessary demands are being made from us. We are waiting for the action of the Election Commission because the Election Commission also has the responsibility to save democracy. At the same time, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh also made allegations targeting BJP.

On this matter, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri says, if your income is eligible to file income tax return every year, then you should file the return. This rule is for everyone and no party or party member is untouched by it. Congress has not filed income tax for 17 years.
