New Delhi, After the Lok Sabha election results, Congress was looking very excited. Claims of victory were being made everywhere, but after the formation of the government, Congress has decided to review the defeat. There will be more focus on those states where the party’s performance has been very poor or where it has got zero seats. For this, the party has formed state-wise committees. The panel will submit the report, after which the party will take the final decision on this.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has formed six committees to assess the party’s poor performance in some states including Karnataka, Telangana and Himachal Pradesh. The party is in power in all these states. The party will also focus on Madhya Pradesh, Delhi and Uttarakhand, as Congress did not get a single seat in these states. AICC Organization General Secretary KC Venugopal said, the job of the panel decided by the Congress President is to find out the reason for the defeat.
Chauhan in MP and Maken in Chhattisgarh
Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, Saptagiri Ulaka and Jignesh Mevani have been given the responsibility to find out the reasons for the defeat in Madhya Pradesh. This three-member panel will look into the reasons for the party not getting any seat in the state. The committee formed for Chhattisgarh includes former Union Minister Veerappa Moily and former Rajasthan Minister Harish Chaudhary. Senior party leaders Ajay Maken and Tariq Anwar will assess the reasons for the defeat in Odisha.
Where defeat was faced even after forming a government
The party has entrusted the responsibility for Delhi, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh to senior leaders PL Punia and Rajni Patil. Congress did not get a single seat in all these three states. Congress lost in Karnataka despite having a clear majority government. Therefore, the party has entrusted the responsibility to senior leaders Madhusudan Mistry, Gaurav Gogoi and Hibi Eden to assess the defeat there. Similarly, the reasons for the defeat in Congress-ruled Telangana will be investigated by former Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman PJ Kurien, Rakibul Hussain and Pargat Singh.
No time frame given
The Congress President has not given any time limit to the committees to submit their report, but it is being said that the party’s poor performance in these states was discussed during the last meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC). After that, the decision to form different committees has been taken. Kharge had said during the CWC meeting that these committees will not only find out the reasons, but will also tell how to strengthen the party there. Let us tell you that Congress contested 328 seats by forming an alliance in India Alliance, but it won only 99 seats. However, this is almost double the last Lok Sabha election. Then Congress got only 52 seats.
