New Delhi: After the allegations of freezing the bank accounts of the Congress Party, now the Bharatiya Janata Party has hit back. Party spokesperson Sambit Patra said that no bank account of Congress has been frozen and it is creating a bundle of lies. He said that under provision 13A of the Income Tax Act, political parties get exemption in income tax. This is the case of financial year 2017-18, for which the extended date for filing tax on the basis of assessment was 31 December 2018.
Congress party did not pay taxes on time – BJP
Sambit Patra said that Congress did not pay the tax by the due date as per the rules and went against the rules and also took anonymous donation of Rs 14 lakh in cash. A return demand of Rs 105 crore was made on Congress by imposing penalty for not paying tax on time, but Congress deposited only Rs 2.5 crore with the Income Tax Department. BJP spokesperson said that if Congress had filed the return at that time, this situation would not have happened. Later, after charging interest, that amount reached Rs 135 crore. Congress appealed, which was rejected first by the department, then by ITAT and then by the Delhi High Court.
‘Some bank accounts of Congress were attached on routine basis’
Patra further said that after this, as per the rules, some bank accounts of Congress were attached on routine basis and the department banned the withdrawal of Rs 115 crore. However, Congress’s bank account was not frozen. Their accounts are still operational, they can make both deposits and withdrawals. Along with this, he also told that Congress Party has many bank accounts and many PAN numbers. Congress has thousands of crores of rupees in its account and fixed assets worth about Rs 500 crores.
‘Gandhi family thinks they are above the law’
Accusing Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge of spreading a bundle of lies, the BJP leader asked why the Gandhi family thinks it is above the law. He expressed hope that now Rahul Gandhi will give technical and not political answers to these facts in detail. Answering the question regarding electoral bonds, Patra sarcastically said that the bond between the Congress party and the Gandhi family is not being formed with the people of the country. They are repeatedly talking about level playing field but how will it happen if they play on the pitch of corruption. It is certain that the corrupt will run away and those fighting against corruption will catch them.
