Mediterranean Diet Increases Life: Although it is already believed that Mediterranean diet makes life healthy, but now a new study has claimed that Mediterranean diet also increases life span. According to a report published in JAMA Network, regular intake of Mediterranean diet reduces the impact of death due to all causes by 23 percent. This study was done on 25,315 people. Mediterranean diet is in a way similar to the food of South India. It is called Mediterranean diet because this was the diet of the people of France, Spain, Greece and Italy, countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea, in the olden times.
Lower risk of heart disease and cancer
The Mediterranean diet mainly includes fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, fish, legumes, nuts and whole grains. For this research, the researchers collected and analyzed the health data of 25 thousand people between 1993 and 1996. In this, 33 blood biomarkers were identified. In this, their lifestyle and weight related data were mainly analyzed. The study found that the risk of death from all causes decreased by 23 percent in those who regularly consumed the Mediterranean diet. Even the risk of cancer and heart related diseases decreased in these people.
What’s in the Mediterranean diet
Mainly fresh fruits and fresh vegetables are consumed in the Mediterranean diet. Apart from this, whole grains, legume vegetables such as lentils, beans, peanuts etc., nuts and seeds, heart-healthy foods such as fish, walnuts, avocado etc. are consumed. On the other hand, processed food, added sugar, refined grains are consumed minimally in the Mediterranean diet, while despite being a cold country, alcohol is also controlled. Due to this diet, the risk of heart-related diseases is reduced and obesity is also controlled.
