State Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister KS Eshwarappa on Friday resigned in connection with the suicide case of contractor Santosh Patil in Karnataka. He submitted his resignation letter to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai. Eshwarappa had announced his resignation yesterday. He had said that he would submit his resignation to the Chief Minister on Friday.

The police have registered a case against Eshwarappa for abetting the suicide of contractor Santosh Patil. Eshwarappa said, “An allegation is being leveled against me, should I come out clean or not… If I continue as a minister while the investigation is on, it will be felt that I can influence him.” That’s why I am resigning from the post of minister. I am telling you that I will come out innocent and will definitely become a minister once again.
Meanwhile, the opposition Congress on Friday accused Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai of trying to save Eshwarappa and demanded his arrest and registration of a case against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The Congress has demanded a fair investigation by the police under the supervision of a judge of the Karnataka High Court.
