Kaithal. Haryana State Vigilance and Anti -Corruption Bureau, Karnal, taking a major action, arrested Gulab Singh, clerk of the electricity department, Kalayat (Kaithal). The accused is accused of taking a bribe of Rs 4900 from a complainant. According to the complaint received by the State Vigilance Bureau, the electricity connection of Hardeep, the boy of a complainant’s uncle, was deducted due to lack of bills for almost a year. Hardeep had submitted the file to the electricity department, Kalayat to install a new meter.
Naresh Kundu, the lineman of the electricity department to the complainant, told that under the ‘Electricity Bill waiver scheme 2025’ of the Haryana government, a new meter can be installed by filling the old bill. The complainant then approached the clerk Gulab Singh. Gulab Singh said that his bill owes Rs 42,215.
The complainant said that he has a BPL card, but Gulab Singh made a bill of more amount by showing his income more. On 30 July 2025, Gulab Singh sought a bribe of Rs 22,000 from the complainant to reduce the bill amount. The accused said that he should deposit Rs 8,500 immediately, out of which a receipt of Rs 3,600 will be deducted and the remaining Rs 4,900 will be kept himself. The complainant gave Rs 8,500, after which the accused asked for more than Rs 17,000.
On the basis of the complaint, the bureau took action and arrested the accused Gulab Singh. At the time of arrest, Rs 4,400 was also recovered from the already bribery amount taken from the accused. Prosecution number 26 dated 1.8.2025, Section 7 P.C. A case has been registered in the State Vigilance and Anti -Corruption Bureau, Ambala under the Act 1988.
