I think that while the scientific achievements have been absolutely outstanding, the fact is that we developed the vaccine in less than a year, but what remained lacking was the lack of global coordination and strict travel rules during the pandemic. He referred to restrictions on travel to South Africa if a new version of COVID-19 was found.

The challenge is going to be huge as there are many countries that have not been able to pursue large-scale vaccination programmes. He also said that WHO is working on scenarios where variant-proof vaccines are developed and suggested that a worldwide distribution manufacturing network is needed.
CEO Kant said, Biopharma will have to be encouraged
NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant, who also participated in the panel discussion, said that the government needs to encourage research and development and also sectors like biopharma in a big way so that India is recognized as a major player in the global pharma market. He said that we are examining ways to strengthen this system and promote greater industry-academic collaboration. There is a need to foster innovation, global partnerships and knowledge sharing among our scientific community.
