Amid rising COVID cases in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said immunization of all eligible children is a priority of the government and stressed the need to promote COVID-19 behaviour. Presiding over a review meeting with Chief Ministers of several states through video conferencing to assess the health situation across the country, Prime Minister Modi said that vaccination of all eligible children at the earliest is the priority of the government and for this special schools should be started. Talking about the ongoing vaccination campaign against the pandemic, the Prime Minister said, “It is a matter of pride for every Indian that 96 per cent of the adult population in the country has received a single dose of the COVID vaccine.”
PM Modi urged officials to be vigilant, as the challenges related to the pandemic are not over.
PM Modi said, “Despite handling the COVID crisis well in comparison to other countries, we are now seeing a spurt in cases in the states. We have to be cautious. It is clear that the Covid challenge is not over yet.” “
Noting that the joint efforts of the Center and the states have significantly improved the health infrastructure, Modi called for augmenting the same in medical colleges and district hospitals.
“Our scientists and experts are constantly monitoring the national and global situation. We have to work on their suggestions with a collective approach,” he said.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and other senior officials were also present in the meeting.
