new Delhi. CPI(M) Rajya Sabha member John Brittas on Friday urged the government to roll back the hike in the prices of essential medicines. Raising the issue during Zero Hour, the Kerala MP said: “The life of the common man is getting tougher day by day. People are already battling with the hike in prices and the fuel rates are increasing every day. Unfortunately. Since then, the prices of more than 800 essential commodities are being increased by 11 percent.
Britas said: “This is unprecedented because there has never been such a sharp rise in prices. When the whole country is going through a health emergency, any sensitive government should avoid it. But the insensitivity is being shown to the people.”
He mentioned that last year’s growth was just 0.53 per cent and in 2020 it has gone up to 1.88 per cent.
Britas said, “There was no drastic increase in prices in previous years. I have urged the government to roll back the hike in prices of essential medicines.
Shiv Sena member Priyanka Chaturvedi said that the cost of living is increasing every day and the government should consider giving some relief to the people.
