A person resident of Trilokpuri, Delhi, along with his wife arrived at the ongoing Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. During this time, the husband made videos of amazing moments spent in Mahakumbh, took photographs and kept sending children home. Through this, the husband’s attempt was to present a picture of a happy relationship between the two in front of his family. The husband and wife rented a house to spend the night. However, the next morning his wife’s blood -soaked body was found in the room. The incident in the Jhunsi area of Prayagraj on the night of 18 February was solved by the Prayagraj police within 48 hours and arrested the accused husband in the brutal murder of his wife.
According to the police, the Prayagraj police were informed about the blood -soaked body of a 40 -year -old woman in a homestay in Azad Nagar Colony of Jhunsi police station area on the morning of February 19. On reaching the spot, the police found that the woman’s throat was strangled with a sharp weapon. Initial investigation has revealed that the woman arrived at homestay with a person last night. Both described themselves as husband and wife. However, the Homestay Manager did not confirm the identity of both nor took any certificate. However, both were given a room. The next morning when the Homestay Manager came to know about this horrific incident, the police was informed.
Police investigation revealed that the woman had reached Prayagraj from Delhi with her husband on 18 February. Police published pictures of the woman on various social media platforms and newspapers. This attempt of the police was successful and a relative of the woman identified her. The victim has been identified as Meenakshi wife Ashok Kumar, who was a resident of Trilokpuri, Delhi. After seeing the published pictures, the deceased woman’s brother Pravesh Kumar reached Prayagraj with two sons Ashwini and Adarsh of the woman. He introduced himself to Jhusi police station. After this, the police registered a case against the accused husband Ashok Kumar and arrested him.
During interrogation, Ashok Kumar confessed his crime. He revealed that he had been plotting to kill his wife for three months. The cleaning worker Ashok had a love affair with a woman, due to which he hatched a conspiracy to kill his wife.
Ashok left for Mahakumbh with Meenakshi on 17 February from Delhi. The next day both reached Jhansi and booked a room in a homestay. As soon as the night took place, the fight between the two started. When Meenakshi went to the bathroom, Ashok took advantage of the opportunity and attacked him from behind and strangled her with a knife. After this, he changed his blood -stained clothes and wrapped a knife in them and destroyed the evidence.
Ashok, calling his son falsely claimed that Meenakshi had disappeared from the crowd during Mahakumbh. Expressing his concern, he told his children that he found Meenakshi but did not find it. However, after doubting the father’s words, Ashwin reached Mahakumbh on 20 February with a photo of his mother and started investigating. Meanwhile, the police are investigating CCTV footage and continue to gather evidence. A day before the murder, on February 18, Ashok uploaded a video of himself and Meenakshi on social media, in which both were seen taking a sacred bath. Ashok was arrested due to contradictory statements, surveillance footage and forensic report.
