Big announcement of Australian cricket
Cricket Australia has reiterated that Australia will not play bilateral cricket with Afghanistan due to the Taliban government’s stance regarding women’s rights. Cricket Australia chief executive Nick Hockley said there have been regular discussions with the Afghanistan Cricket Board on the matter, and it is hoped the two teams will resume playing each other at some point in the future. Australia have pulled out of playing bilateral series with Afghanistan three times, citing a decline in human rights for women and girls, but continue to play against them in ICC events.
The CEO of Cricket Australia said this
Hockley said that Afghanistan played a fantastic tournament with great players and they played with a lot of passion and enthusiasm. Regarding our bilateral matches, we have consulted widely with stakeholders including the Australian government and have decided to postpone our last few series with the Afghanistan Cricket Board on the basis of human rights.
“We maintain a close relationship and regular dialogue with the Afghanistan Cricket Board, and want cricket to flourish around the world for both men and women. We hope to make progress, and will continue to maintain discussions and contact with the Afghanistan Cricket Board, with the goal of resuming bilateral cricket with Afghanistan at some point in the future,” he added.
