New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Croatia on Wednesday after attending the ‘G7 Summit’ held in Canada, Canada where he was strongly welcomed in the capital Jagreb. During this, he also shared pictures on social media platform X.
PM Modi wrote on X, “Shortly before I landed in Jagrab, the capital of Croatia. This is a special journey, as it is the first visit to our important European friendly country of an Indian Prime Minister. I am grateful to Prime Minister Andrez Plankovic to welcome me at the airport.”
Actually, PM Modi is on an official visit to Croatia at the invitation of Prime Minister Andrez Plankovic. This is an Indian Prime Minister’s first visit to Croatia, which will prove to be an important milestone in bilateral relations.
Analysts believe that the Indian Prime Minister’s first visit to Croatia will help promote strong political and economic cooperation with the European country. This journey will also provide an important opportunity to expand bilateral cooperation in various fields including business, innovation, defense, port, shipping, science and technology, cultural exchange and workforce dynamics.
India and Croatia have close cooperation in areas like trade, investment, defense, agriculture and both countries cooperate in international forums.
Bilateral trade between the two countries is around US $ 30 million and Indian investment in Croatia is around US $ 4.8 million.
Prime Minister Modi had a brief conversation with Croatia’s Prime Minister Plankovic in a meeting of COP-26 in the year 2021 and Virtual India-European Union leaders in the same year.
In March 2019, former President Ramnath Kovind made a state visit to Croatia. During this time he was awarded Croatia’s highest civilian honor ‘The Grand Order of the King of Tomislav’.
In December 2024, around 17,000 Indians were living in Croatia. Most of these Indian employees are working on short -term to moderate contracts.
