New Delhi. A day before the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL-2024), Chennai Super Kings has announced a change in captaincy. Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who led the team to victory five times, has announced to step down from the command of Chennai Super Kings after a long innings. He will be replaced by 27 year old batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad. The inaugural match of this season will be played between Chennai and Bangalore at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium on Friday.
Dhoni had also left the captaincy in 2022. Former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni had earlier stepped down from the captaincy in the 2022 season, with Ravindra Jadeja taking over the captaincy. However, due to the poor performance of the team, Jadeja also resigned from the captaincy in the middle of the season, after which Dhoni had to take charge once again. After this, Dhoni led Chennai to its fifth championship in the 2023 season.
