The Indian subcontinent is on high alert as another cyclonic storm threatens to make landfall. A disturbance has intensified over the ocean and its presence is now strongly felt. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an update saying that the deep pressure area over the Bay of Bengal turned into a cyclonic storm on Monday evening. However, it is worth noting that this cyclone is not expected to have any significant impact on the Indian coastline.

The IMD reports that as of 5:30 pm, the deep depression system was located about 230 km off the coast of Paradip in Odisha, 360 km south of Digha in West Bengal and 510 km south-southwest of Khepupara in Bangladesh. According to the IMD, there is a possibility that this system will intensify into a severe cyclonic storm in the next 12 hours, moving in a north-northwest direction over the North Bay of Bengal.

Although the expected cyclone is not expected to directly impact Odisha, some Durga Puja pandals (temporary structures for religious ceremonies) may face damage due to the high wind speed.
