Daily wage labourer's son cracked JEE, now he is worried about IIT

Story of IIT JEE: Every youth dreams of studying from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). To fulfill this dream, one has to pass JEE Main and Advanced exams. Even if one succeeds in passing it, it has been seen many times that due to being financially weak, difficulties in studying from here start increasing. Also, there remains a doubt whether one will be able to complete studies from IIT or not. Bonila Aryan Roshan is going through similar difficulties.

Mother works as a laborer for Rs 200 per day
The gate of IIT-Tirupati will open on August 1. As soon as this gate opens, Bonila Aryan Roshan will be in the queue of students going to the Department of Chemical Engineering. Still, Roshan is not very happy. According to a report by TOI, Roshan says, “I am not sure whether I will be able to complete my four years of engineering or not.” Coming from the SC community, Roshan belongs to Siddipet district of Telangana, where his mother works as a daily wage laborer for Rs 200 per day.

It is difficult to pay IIT fees
Roshan (Bonila Aryan Roshan) has secured 2406 rank (SC category) in JEE exam. But it is becoming difficult for his family to pay the IIT fees. The family has somehow raised Rs 50,000 to pay Roshan’s IIT fees. 18-year-old Roshan says that with this I will be able to complete my first semester… I don’t know how I will bear the expenses of my studies after this. He lost his father at an early age.

Students from these marginalized communities
Roshan’s story is the reality of many students from marginalised communities in Telangana. The IITs waive off Rs 1 lakh tuition fee for SC/ST candidates. But they are expected to bear other expenses such as lodging, mess and registration. This ranges between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 1.5 lakh annually. Cash-strapped students have to sell off their meagre possessions or are left at the mercy of philanthropists.
