Prostate Cancer in India: Cancer cases are increasing rapidly all over the world, but in India, when cases increase, it becomes difficult to treat it. On one hand, in the rich countries of the world, cancer is identified at an early stage, whereas in India, in most of the cases, cancer is identified much later, due to which the death toll due to cancer is high in India. After this horrific truth, now a dangerous truth has come to light in the report of The Lancet. According to the report, by 2040, every year 29 lakh new patients will be victims of prostate cancer all over the world. Of these, there will be 72 thousand patients from India alone. The matter of concern is that prostate cancer is detected much later in India because its symptoms appear much later, hence the number of deaths due to it will also be higher than in rich countries.
More cases of prostate cancer in the country than before
Citing the report of the International Agency for Research on Cancer, The Lancet has said that the cases of prostate cancer in India will double to 72 thousand by 2040. Presently the incidence of prostate cancer in India is 3 percent of all cancers. Every year 33 thousand to 42 thousand people come here for treatment of prostate cancer. Dr. Vedang Murthy, Professor of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Tata Memorial Centre, told the Indian Express that it is a matter of concern for us because currently most of the patients come for treatment of prostate cancer in advanced stage, out of which 65 Percentage of patients die. That means every year around 18 to 20 thousand people die due to prostate cancer.
What is prostate cancer?
According to Mayo Clinic, prostate cancer occurs only in men. Actually, there is a walnut-sized gland below the bladder of men which is called prostate. It creates seminal fluid in men, which creates a smooth path for the sperm to move and this fluid also provides nutrition to the sperm. Generally, with increasing age, there is a lack of fluid and cancer cells start forming in this organ. This process happens very slowly and takes many years. Therefore, its symptoms are not visible in the beginning.
