Out of the total 12 vacant seats of Rajya Sabha, Assam, Bihar and Maharashtra have 2 seats each while Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tripura, Telangana and Odisha have 1 seat each. According to the Election Commission, these seats have become vacant due to Kamakhya Prasad Tasa and Sarbananda Sonowal from Assam, Misa Bharti and Vivek Thakur from Bihar, Deepender Singh Hooda from Haryana, Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia from Madhya Pradesh, Udayan Raje Bhosale and Piyush Vedprakash Goyal from Maharashtra, K.C. Venugopal from Rajasthan and Biplab Kumar Deb from Tripura being elected as MPs in the Lok Sabha elections. At the same time, K. Keshav Rao from Telangana and Mamta Mohanta from Odisha recently resigned from the Rajya Sabha, due to which these two seats have become vacant.

Let us tell you that Mamta Mohanta was an old leader of Odisha’s Biju Janata Dal party and Rajya Sabha MP. Mamta had also resigned from Rajya Sabha and primary membership of BJD on 31 July. After this, Mamta Mohanta has joined BJP. Mamta had sent her resignation to BJD President Naveen Patnaik saying that Biju Janata Dal no longer needs me. I am a public servant and serving the people is my goal, so I no longer need to be in that party.
