Rajasthan Royals defeated Delhi Capitals by 15 runs in the 34th match of IPL 2022. With this win, Sanju Samson’s team has again secured the first position in the points table. Apart from Rajasthan, Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bangalore also have 10-10 points, but Rajasthan is ahead of them due to better net run rate. Batting first, Rajasthan had set a huge target of 233 runs in front of Delhi on the basis of Jos Buttler’s century, in front of this score, Delhi could score only 207 runs in 20 overs.
Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and elected to bowl first. Jos Buttler and Devdutt Padikkal proved Pant’s decision wrong from the beginning. For Rajasthan, these two batsmen added 155 runs for the first wicket. During this, Butler scored 116 runs, scoring his third century of the season, while Padikkal scored 54 runs. In the end, captain Sanju Samson played a stormy innings of 46 runs in 19 balls to take the team to a score of 222.
Prithvi Shaw and David Warner gave a good start to Delhi chasing the target. Famous Krishna gave the first blow by dismissing Warner (28) in the 5th over. After this Sarfaraz (1) also returned to the pavilion together.
As long as Pant (44) and Shaw (37) were standing at the crease, Delhi were expected to win, but as soon as these players were dismissed, Rajasthan tightened their grip. Apart from this, Lilit Yadav scored 37 and Powell scored 36 runs for Delhi.
Delhi needed 36 runs in the last over, Powell had thrilled the match by hitting three sixes in the first three balls. McCoy’s third ball was a full toss which was under the radar of no balls. The whole camp of Delhi was demanding a no ball from the umpire but one of them was not listened to. During this, Pant tried to call the players of Delhi out of the field. During this, Powell lost his momentum and he could not hit a single six in the next three balls.
