New Delhi. Today, Indians hoping for a medal in the Paris Olympics have suffered a second setback in the day. After Indian shooter Manu Bhaker, now archer Deepika Kumari has lost 4-6 in the quarterfinal match of the women’s singles competition. Deepika has been knocked out of the medal race after being defeated by Korean player Su-Hyon. With this, the Indian challenge in the archery competition in the Olympics has also ended. India has not yet won a single medal in archery in the Olympics.

Deepika took a 2-0 lead by winning the first set against Korean player Su-Hyeon in the quarterfinal match of the women’s singles competition. From here India’s hopes of a medal became stronger. But in the second set, Korea’s Su-Hyeon made a strong comeback and equalized the score at 2-2. After this, Deepika won the third set 29-28 and took a 4-2 lead in the match. In the fourth set, Korean archer Su-Hyeon once again made a strong comeback in the game and won 29-27 and equalized the game at 4-4. After this, Deepika had to face defeat in the fifth and last set.
Earlier, Indian archer Bhajan Kaur also had to face defeat in the pre-quarterfinals of women’s singles. Bhajan Kaur was defeated by Indonesian archer Dianda Choirunisa. In the ongoing competition between the two players, the score was tied at 5-5 after five sets. After this, a shootout took place between Bhajan and Dianda. Dianda scored 9 points in the shootout, while Bhajan could score only 8 and she too missed by just one point like shooter Manu Bhaker. Indian fans were expecting medals from Manu Bhaker and Deepika Kumari today.
