New Delhi. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was to appear in Sultanpur court of Uttar Pradesh today in a defamation case. Citing his busy schedule in election campaign, Rahul did not appear in the court and sought further time to appear. On this, the judge fixed June 7 as the date for hearing the case.
Actually this matter is related to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Rahul Gandhi had made an objectionable statement about Amit Shah during a press conference in Bengaluru on 4 August 2018. After this, BJP leader Vijay Mishra had filed a defamation case against Rahul Gandhi for making objectionable statement against Amit Shah. In this regard, BJP leader’s advocate Santosh Pandey said that Rahul Gandhi’s appearance was scheduled in Sultanpur MP MLA court today. Rahul Gandhi’s lawyer had applied for adjournment because he says that Rahul is busy in election campaign. I opposed Rahul’s application, on which the court has given Rahul Gandhi the last chance to appear and fixed the next date as 7 June.

Advocate Santosh Pandey said that Rahul Gandhi is deliberately running away from the hearing. A warrant was issued against Rahul Gandhi under Section 500 IPC. After this, Rahul Gandhi appeared in the court on 20 February 2024 and then the court granted him bail. The MP MLA court had fixed the date of today i.e. 27 May for the hearing of the case, in which Rahul Gandhi was also to appear but he sought exemption from appearance citing his busyness in election campaign. Now the court has given him the last chance and fixed the date of 7 June for the appearance, in which Rahul Gandhi will have to appear.
