New Delhi . The Delhi High Court on Tuesday reprimanded Patanjali founder Baba Ramdev for communal comments against Hamdard Company and its popular drink Ruh Afja. In the initial hearing of the trial filed by Hamdard National Foundation India, Justice Amit Bansal called Ramdev’s statements “unforgivable” and said that it shocks the consciousness of the court. The court warned Ramdev’s counsel of strict order and asked him to appear again to seek instructions.
The court ordered Ramdev to file an affidavit, in which they promise that no objectionable statements, advertisements or social media posts will be released against the sympathy in the future. The court gave a week’s time for this and the next hearing of the case was fixed on 1 May. On behalf of Ramdev, advocate Rajiv Nayyar told the court that instructions have been issued to remove the disputed video and believe that the matter has ended here. However, the court said that after watching the video, he could not believe his ears and eyes.
In fact, on 3 April, Ramdev made a controversial comment on the sympathy, promoting Patanjali’s rose syrup. In a viral video, he claimed that Hamdard builds mosques and madrasas with his earnings. Ramdev, using the word ‘Sharbat Jihad’, said that drinking sympathy will make mosques and madrasas, while Patanjali’s sherbet will promote Gurukul, Acharyakulam and Indian Board of Education. He connected the syrup of Hamdard to ‘Love Jihad’ and ‘Vote Jihad’. Honoring this statement, Hamdard turned to the High Court. The court took a tough stand, considering Ramdev’s statements as communal and objectionable.
