New Delhi. The petition of Aam Aadmi Party convener and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, arrested in the Delhi Liquor Policy scam case, was heard again in the Supreme Court today. Kejriwal appealed to the Supreme Court against the arrest, on which the court raised questions about the timing of the arrest. Apart from this, the Supreme Court asked many questions to the ED, the answers to which will now be given by the investigating agency on Friday.
On Kejriwal’s petition, the Supreme Court bench of Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Dipankar Dutta asked Additional Solicitor General SV Raju why the arrest was made just before the Lok Sabha elections. The bench told the ED that life and liberty are extremely important, you cannot deny this. The court asked whether you can initiate criminal proceedings here without judicial proceedings. No attachment action has been taken so far in this case and if it has been done then tell how Kejriwal is involved in this matter? The bench said that as far as Manish Sisodia is concerned, there are findings in favor and against, tell us on this where is Kejriwal’s case? Let us tell you that former Deputy CM of Delhi Manish Sisodia is also lodged in Tihar Jail in the same case.
A day before this, on Monday, during the hearing in the same case, the Supreme Court had also asked several questions to senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, appearing for Kejriwal. The bench had said, “Are you not contradicting yourself by saying that their statements were not recorded under Section 50 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act? Let us tell you that in this case, several summons were issued to Kejriwal one after the other by the ED, but Kejriwal did not come for questioning even once. After which ED went to Kejriwal’s house and arrested him on March 21.
