new Delhi. On Navratri, the politics over the restrictions on meat in Delhi is fierce. The Delhi Minorities Commission has sent notices to the Mayors and MCD commissioners of the three municipal corporations on the matter of banning the sale of meat. In this notice, MCD Mayor and MCD Commissioner have been asked under which rules have issued orders/instructions to ban meat shops during Navratras. Zakir Khan, chairman of the Delhi Minorities Commission, said that it is a strange situation that nowhere in the law of our country it is written that you should keep meat shops closed on festivals, while the law says that you can eat anything according to your religion. I have issued a notice to the mayor and commissioner of all the three corporations and asked whether any written order has been given to close the meat shops on festivals?, or is this an oral statement?
He further said that, such orders should not be given, which work to spoil the country’s food, Hindu Muslim is one unity, all religions have respect. There is no person above the law. Such orders have created fear among the people.
In fact, before Navratri, the Mayor of South Delhi had issued an order regarding the meat ban, Mayor Mukesh Suryan directed the concerned officials to take appropriate steps to keep the meat shops closed till Navratri.
