S Jaishankar, Foreign Minister.
Colombo: Foreign Minister S Jaishankar is going to visit Sri Lanka on his first foreign trip after the formation of the Modi government for the third time. It is being told that Jaishankar will visit Sri Lanka on June 20. Sources in the Ministry of External Affairs gave this information on Saturday. Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Ali Sabry told reporters on Friday that Sri Lanka is looking forward to Jaishankar’s visit and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to visit the island nation in the coming days.
Sabry said these visits are a result of President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s visit to New Delhi last week, where he went to attend Modi’s swearing-in ceremony. However, there has been no official announcement from India’s Foreign Ministry about Jaishankar’s visit. If confirmed, this could be Jaishankar’s first official foreign visit after being appointed Foreign Minister in the new government.
I have already visited Sri Lanka a year ago
Jaishankar last visited Colombo in October 2023, when he attended the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) meeting. According to LK, during a recent meeting with President Wickremesinghe in India, Jaishankar talked about the early restart of development projects started in Sri Lanka with Indian investment, which were stopped midway. Now he is going to visit Colombo again with the aim of renewing and strengthening the bilateral relations between India and Sri Lanka. (Language)
