Delhi schools should do this work immediately, otherwise they will be locked, because...


After the incident at an IAS coaching centre in Rajendra Nagar, Delhi, all the top machinery is on alert mode. Every department related to administration and security is preparing new guidelines for security along with conducting investigations. Coaching institutes running in basements in different parts of the country including Delhi are being locked. In this regard, the Delhi government has issued strict guidelines for the safety of students in all schools.

In a letter sent to all schools and colleges, the Delhi government has given special instructions regarding basement, entry and exit gate arrangements, waterlogging and electrical fittings. In the notice issued by the government, it has been clearly stated that strict action will be taken against those schools which do not follow the rules. The guidelines issued by the Delhi government for schools are as follows-

– The rules of Master Plan 2021 should be followed regarding the use of basement.
– If a school has a basement, then only those activities should be carried out which are permitted as per the master plan.
– All gates of the school building must be in working condition for entry and exit.
– The route leading to the basement should be properly marked in the school’s evacuation plan.
– It should be ensured that all corridors and pathways of the school are obstruction-free.
– It should be checked regularly to ensure that water does not accumulate in the corridors and stairs of the school and necessary steps should be taken for this.
– All efforts should be made at school level to ensure that there is no waterlogging inside and around the school.
– Electrical wiring and fittings etc. should be checked. It should be ensured that all the standards are followed properly so that no untoward incident occurs
– The school must have all necessary fire safety measures.

Let us tell you that last Saturday, after the rain in Old Rajendra Nagar, Delhi, the basement of a coaching centre was flooded. Three students died in this incident.
