On Thursday, the Muslim Forum Sikar staged a strong protest outside the Collectorate under the Waqf Bachao Andolan under the banner of All India Muslim Personal Law Board. The protesters demanded the withdrawal of the Waqf Amendment Act 2025 proposed by the Central Government and called the law an attack on the rights of the Muslim community.
A large number of people from all over the district participated in this demonstration, which started at around 11 am. The protesters had placards and banners in their hands, on which slogans like ‘Stop tampering with Waqf properties’, ‘retain the autonomy of the Waqf Board’. Along with this, fierce slogans were raised against the central government during the protest.
The reason behind the protest
The protesters say the Waqf Amendment Act 2025 weakens the protection and community rights of Waqf properties. They allege that through this amendment, the government wants to eliminate the autonomy of the Waqf Board and take the Waqf properties under government control. Those involved in the demonstration said that this law is a violation of religious freedom and constitutional rights of minorities.
Demand for protesters
The officials of the Muslim Forum submitted a memorandum to the district administration, demanding from the Central Government that:
Waqf Amendment Act 2025 to be canceled with immediate effect
Security of Waqf properties should be ensured
The autonomy of the Waqf Board should be maintained
Honoring the sentiments of the minority community, no law should be passed without communicating with them
Peaceful performance was complete
The protest was completely peaceful and was held in the presence of a heavy police force. Police officials maintained the traffic system and kept the traffic smooth. After the demonstration, the delegation submitted a memorandum to the District Collector.
Political reactions also started coming out
Political discussions on this issue have also started at the local level. Some opposition leaders, supporting the protest, have accused the central government of ignoring the rights of minorities. However, there is no official response to this demonstration from the government at present.
