Gem and Jewelery Domestic Council appeals, reason for lack of infrastructure
Business across the country has come to a standstill due to Corona. The business class is upset. In such a situation, there has been a demand to extend the mandatory hallmarking rule on jewelery by one year. The All India Gem and Jewelery Domestic Council has written a letter in this regard and appealed to the government and asked to extend the current deadline which is expiring in the month of June 2021 for one more year. Infrastructure is present in only 33% of the districts of India.
Due to non-availability of hallmarking centers in many districts, the implementation of this rule will jeopardize the livelihood of jewelers and artisans. The number of registered jewelers in 733 districts of the country is also just a little more than 31 thousand. Most of the jewelers are not even registered. GJC President Ashish Pethe said that the government will have to create hallmarking infrastructure before implementing this rule, otherwise this rule will not be implemented well. Also, there will be an adverse effect on the jewelry business. Many people are also in danger of losing their jobs.
At present, there is a situation of corona in the country, in such a situation, the problem of jewelers may increase after the rule of hall marking is relaxed. Considering the present situation of the country and understanding the problem of the jeweler, the government should postpone the rule of making hall marking mandatory for one year. So that the government can make its infrastructure and the situation of Corona becomes a little normal.
